Practice question · Select all that apply
Select every derivative below that is CORRECT.
Hints
- Two options are the two classic errors of this lesson, one per rule.
- For the fourth, simplify the product to a single power first and compare.
Show the answer
- B. the derivative of ln x is 1/x
- D. the derivative of cos x is -sin x
- E. the derivative of x to the seventh is 7 x to the sixth
Why
Option 2 drops the inner derivative 2x. Option 4 multiplies the derivatives: the product is x to the fifth, with derivative 5 x to the fourth, whereas the false rule gives 6 x cubed. The other three are standard results.
