Hints
- Absolute value is distance from 0, so it is never negative.
- 3 - 11 = -8, and the distance from -8 to 0 is 8.

| 3 - 11 | = | -8 | = 8 and | -4 | = 4, so the total is 12. Note that | 3 - 11 | is also the distance between 3 and 11 on the line, the reading of | x - y | that makes absolute value genuinely useful. |
