Painting I / Aqueous Media
Practice question · Estimate

A wall of 18 square metres is to be painted in buon fresco by a painter who has been averaging 1.2 square metres a day. How many days of plastering and painting does that imply?

Estimate on a scale from 0 days (0) to 40 days (40).

Hints
  1. Divide the area by the daily rate.
  2. Eighteen divided by 1.2.
Show the answer

15 (answers within ±2 count)

Why

15 days, and therefore fifteen joins to place. The arithmetic is the reason a fresco is designed around its seams from the start: the cartoon has to be divided into areas that can each be finished before the plaster sets, and the divisions have to fall where a contour will hide them.
