Painting I / Brushes, Tools and the Mark
Practice question · True or false

A brush is best cleaned by standing it tip-down in a jar of solvent overnight.

Hints
  1. Ask what the bottom of the jar does to the hair.
  2. Ask what the solvent level does to the adhesive in the ferrule.
Show the answer

False

Why

False, and it destroys brushes twice over. The weight of the brush bends the hair permanently against the bottom of the jar, and the solvent creeps into the heel and attacks the adhesive holding the hair in the ferrule. Wash out to the heel, reshape wet, and store handle-down.
