Show the answer

Fifteen of Monet's Meules were shown at Durand-Ruel in 1891. On Kawara began the Today series of date paintings in 1966. Sol LeWitt's Variations of Incomplete Open Cubes arrives at 122 distinct arrangements. Richter's colour charts of the early 1970s are generated by mixing rules rather than chosen.

Why

The last blank is the whole argument in one word. Once a generating rule is in place the individual colours are not chosen, so the charts cannot be read as taste; what is left to look at is the rule, the mixing, and the fact of a painter carrying out a procedure by hand.
