Photography I / Aperture, Shutter and Sensitivity
Practice question · Put in order

Arrange these shutter speeds from the longest exposure to the shortest.

Hints
  1. A larger denominator is a shorter time.
  2. Each step halves the time of the one before it.
Show the answer
  1. 1/15
  2. 1/30
  3. 1/60
  4. 1/125
  5. 1/250
  6. 1/500
Why

Each step is one stop, so the whole run from 1/15 to 1/500 is five stops, a factor of 32 in the time. The printed numbers are nominal: 1/15 is really about 1/16 and 1/125 about 1/128, and the powers of two are what the mechanism is actually doing.
