Computer Science I / Electric Circuits
Practice question · Numerical answer

A 6 ohm resistor and a 3 ohm resistor are connected in parallel. What is their combined resistance, in ohms?

Hints
  1. For two resistors in parallel, the combination is their product divided by their sum.
  2. The product is 18 and the sum is 9.

Why

18/9 = 2 ohms. The result is smaller than either branch, which is the signature of a parallel connection: adding another path always gives the current somewhere else to go, so the total resistance drops.
