Practice question · True or false
For Hegel a synthesis preserves what was true in both thesis and antithesis rather than splitting the difference.
Hints
- What does Aufhebung do?

Show the answer
True
Why
True. Aufhebung simultaneously negates, preserves and raises, the synthesis carries forward what each side got right while abolishing their one-sidedness. A midpoint compromise would be a lesser thing than either, which is the opposite of what the dialectic claims to produce.
