Painting I / Research Methods for Artists
Practice question · Estimate

The factorial test needs thirty panels, and the drying bench holds only eight at a time. How many batches does that require?

Estimate on a scale from 0 batches (0) to 10 batches (10).

Hints
  1. Divide and then round upwards, since a part batch still occupies the bench.
  2. Thirty divided by eight is three and three quarters.
Show the answer

4 (answers within ±0.5 count)

Why

Four batches, because the last six panels still need a bench. Rounding upwards is the whole content of the question and the reason a plan slips: three batches would fit thirty-two panels only if the design were shrunk, and shrinking the design after it has begun is how a controlled test loses its control.
