Which are true of the 3-2-1 backup rule?
Hints
- Three of the statements are the rule; one invents a fourth requirement.
- The numbers stand for copies, media types and locations.
Show the answer
- A. It calls for at least one copy to be held in a different place
- B. It calls for the copies to sit on at least two different kinds of media
- D. It calls for three copies of the material in total
Why
The fourth is not part of it. The rule is deliberately about physical redundancy rather than software: two copies on the same disc array share a failure, and two copies in the same building share a fire. The offsite copy is the one people skip and the one that saves the archive.
