Which are true of the dolly zoom?

Hints
  1. Three describe how the shot is built; one removes the part that does the work.
  2. If the camera does not move, no perspective changes at all.
Show the answer
  • A. The camera moves while the focal length changes in the opposite direction
  • B. The subject stays roughly the same size in the frame throughout
  • D. The background changes scale because the camera position changes
Why

The fourth would produce nothing but a normal zoom. All the visible drama comes from the tracking movement, which changes the relative distances to foreground and background; the zoom exists only to cancel the change in the subject's size so that the perspective shift is seen on its own.
