Which are true of the zone system?

Hints
  1. Three are the arithmetic of the scale; one restates the assumption the system exists to escape.
  2. Placing on Zone V is exactly what following the meter blindly does.
Show the answer
  • A. One zone corresponds to one stop of subject brightness
  • B. The textured range of a normal print runs from about Zone III to Zone VII
  • C. Zone V corresponds to a reflectance of 18 per cent
Why

The fourth is the habit the system replaces. Placing everything on Zone V is what an unthinking reflected reading already does, and it is correct only when the metered area really should be middle grey, which is why the method insists on choosing what to place before deciding where.
