Sculpture I / Installation and Display
Practice question · Sort into groups

Sort each installation practice by how much it fixes in advance.

Groups: Fixed precisely · Fixed within a range · Decided anew each time

Hints
  1. The three practices differ in how much authorship the installer holds.
  2. The most open practice makes the work a set of possibilities.
Show the answer

Fixed precisely: Set size, height and light, Travelling floor plan

Fixed within a range: Range set for installer, Set limits with latitude

Decided anew each time: Reinstalled as new reading, Different in each venue

Why

The third column is a decision rather than an absence of one. A work realised differently in each venue exists as a set of possibilities rather than as a fixed configuration, which puts it on the allographic side of the distinction, closer to a score than to a carving.
