About this course

Sculpture I covers both the workshop and the ideas behind three-dimensional work, in short lessons each followed by practice questions with instant feedback.

The first unit is practical: modelling from a referent, what clay is and why it shrinks, ceramic construction, firing, armatures and the centre of mass, moulds and their materials, positives and multiples, workshop health, safety and sustainability, and the project dossier. The second unit is about form and place: materials as language, the structure of three-dimensional form, the body, space and nature, scale, site, the expanded field, the monument and the counter-monument, methodologies of creation and installation.
