0Why do por and para not map onto "for"?Both are translated as "for" and I have a list of twelve uses for each, which I cannot hold in my head while speaking. The list approach means I am translating rather than thinking in Spanish. If the main clause expresses Wishes, Emotions, Impersonal expressions, Recommendations, Doubt, or Denial (WEIRD), use subjunctive. Quiero que vengas. Es importante que estudies. This covers 80% of cases. You are welcome.

"Ser = permanent, estar = temporary" is WRONG. "Está muerto" (he is dead) is pretty permanent. Better: ser = classification/identity, estar = state/condition/location. "La fiesta ES en mi casa" (event) vs "Mi casa ESTÁ en la calle Main" (physical location).

El truco que me funcionó: describe lo que ves durante 5 minutos al día, en voz alta, SIN traducir del inglés. Empieza con frases simples. La fluidez viene de pensar en español, no de traducir rápido.
