At Tryals, we respect your privacy and are committed to protecting the personal information you share with us. This Privacy Policy explains what we collect when you use the Tryals website and apps, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
When you create an account we collect your name, email address and password, or your Google account details if you sign in with Google, and anything you add to your profile, such as a photo or a bio. We store what you create and send on Tryals: courses, notes, flashcards, the files and images you upload, messages and voice messages, community posts, your conversations with the AI features, and your learning progress. We also record an approximate region: a country derived from the time zone and language your device reports. We never look up your IP address or use location services. While you use Tryals we record which screens you open and when, and we receive crash reports with technical details about the error and your device. If you allow usage analytics, we also collect usage events and performance measurements (see section 7). The camera and microphone are used only for the feature you are using: a photo you take to upload, a voice message, a call or speaking practice.
We use your information to run Tryals: to sign you in; to save and sync your courses, flashcards and progress; to generate AI answers, quizzes, flashcards and feedback from the material you choose; to deliver messages, posts and calls; to send you account emails and the reminders you ask for; to keep the community safe, which includes checking posts and messages automatically for abusive language; and to find and fix crashes and parts of the app that are confusing or slow. When purchases are available, we also use it to process payments and to pay course creators. We do not sell your personal information, and we do not use it to show you ads or to build an advertising profile; if you allow ad measurement, we use it only to learn which of our own ads brought you to Tryals (section 7).
These providers process data on our behalf, each under its own privacy terms:
We share personal information only: with the providers in section 3, to run Tryals; with other users, for what you choose to share with them (your public profile, your community posts, the messages you send in a chat, and calls, which connect directly between the participants and are not recorded); and with authorities when the law requires it or to protect the safety of our users. Your activity is never sold or shared with data brokers, and Tryals shows no advertising. The only advertising partners are the ones in section 3, and only to measure our own ads, if you allow it. Questions and answers you post in a public community may also be published as ordinary web pages on tryals.app, where search engines can find them, together with your display name and picture. Only posts that have cleared moderation are published, never anything from a private community, and you can stop it at any time at Settings → Data and reminders → Community posts in search; switching it off also withdraws the pages already published.
Your data is encrypted in transit (HTTPS/TLS) and stored on Google Cloud infrastructure, which encrypts it at rest. Access is limited by security rules and server-side checks. No system is completely secure and we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your information and to fix any problem quickly.
We keep your data while your account is open. You can delete your account at any time in the app (Profile → Settings → Delete account); tryals.app/delete-account explains how. Deletion is immediate and permanent: your profile, personal information, the courses you created and your learning progress are removed from our active databases, and backup copies are purged within 30 days. We may keep limited records where the law requires it.
On the web we use cookies and local storage to keep you signed in and remember your preferences, such as dark mode. We use no cookies to show or personalise ads. Google Analytics for Firebase, Firebase Performance Monitoring and our own record of the screens you open are all controlled by one switch: Settings → Data and reminders → Usage analytics. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing is collected until you agree; elsewhere they are on until you switch them off. A second switch, Settings → Data and reminders → Ad measurement, lets us learn which of our own ads (on Google and in ChatGPT) brought you to Tryals, using the Google Ads and OpenAI measurement tools and, on the web, their cookies. It only works while usage analytics is on. In the EEA, the UK and Switzerland it is off until you agree; elsewhere it is on for new users until they switch it off. On the web, the consent notice offers the same choice. Crash reports are always sent, so that we can fix errors. A third switch, Settings → Data and reminders → Community posts in search, decides whether your questions and answers in public communities are published as web pages that search engines can find. It is on until you switch it off.
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access and receive a copy of your personal data, correct it, delete it, object to or restrict certain processing, and receive it in a portable format. People in the EU/EEA and the UK have these rights under the GDPR, and California residents under the CCPA. You can correct most of your information and delete your account yourself in the app; for anything else, email support@tryals.com.
Tryals is not directed to children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If we discover that we have collected information from a child under 13, we will promptly delete it. If you believe we may have collected such information, please contact us at support@tryals.com.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will tell you about significant changes by email or with a notice in Tryals before they take effect. The date of the latest revision is shown at the top of this policy. If you keep using Tryals after changes take effect, the updated policy applies.
