Sociology I / Intimacy, Gender and Sexuality
Practice question · Estimate

Estimate the percentage of marriages in Spain in recent years that were between same-sex couples.

Estimate on a scale from 0 per cent (0) to 20 per cent (20).

Hints
  1. It is a small but stable share rather than a negligible or a large one.
  2. The lesson gives it as on the order of two to three per cent.
Show the answer

2.5 (answers within ±1.5 count)

Why

Around two to three per cent on INE figures, and remarkably steady since the early years after legalisation in 2005. The initial spike from couples who had been waiting decades to marry passed quickly, after which the rate settled at roughly the level it has held since.
