Physics II

A free, interactive course in electromagnetism and thermodynamics.

A physics course in two units: electromagnetism, from electrostatics, dielectrics and capacitance through currents, magnetostatics, induction and Maxwell’s equations; and thermodynamics, from state variables and the first law through the Carnot cycle, entropy, thermodynamic potentials, phase transitions and the third law.

À propos de ce cours

Physics II takes on two of the central theories of classical physics. Lessons are short and every one is followed by practice questions with instant feedback, many of them interactive scenes where you set up the field, the circuit or the cycle yourself.

The electromagnetism unit runs from electrostatics in vacuum, dielectrics and conductors to circuits, magnetic materials, electromagnetic induction, Maxwell’s equations and electromagnetic waves. The thermodynamics unit covers systems and state variables, the zeroth, first, second and third laws, heat capacities, the Carnot cycle, reversibility, entropy, Maxwell relations and phase transitions.

Questions fréquentes

Is Physics II free?

Yes. Physics II is free on Tryals, on the web and on Android.

How long is Physics II?

2 units, 20 lessons and 231 practice questions. It is self-paced: each lesson is short, followed by questions with instant feedback, and your progress is saved across devices.

Which languages is Physics II available in?

English, Catalan, German, Spanish, French, Italian and Portuguese. You can switch language inside the app.

What should I know before starting?

Introductory mechanics and calculus. Physics I on Tryals covers both if you need them first.

Is it mathematical?

Yes, at the level these theories need: field integrals, circuit equations and thermodynamic relations are practised with calculations, alongside conceptual questions.
