À propos de ce cours

Sociology I introduces the discipline through its founders and its central questions, in short lessons each followed by practice questions with instant feedback — many of them asking you to read data or apply a concept to a case.

The first unit covers the birth of sociology, Comte and Marx, Durkheim, Weber and Tönnies, the profession, population, family, gender and sexuality, work and labour markets, culture, socialisation and education, integration, anomie and deviance, and class and mobility. The second unit analyses contemporary processes: modernity and postmodernity, globalisation, the crisis of the welfare state, gender and work, inequality, poverty and exclusion, education and mobility, migration, intimacy, and family and the life course.
